On Monday, August 15, 2011, Cactus will return home to 2128 15th Street. After a successful renovation and 8 months in our temporary location, Camp Cactus, the Cacti are heading back to the corner of 15th and Little Raven.

In the fall of 2010, agency partners Joe Conrad and Norm Shearer purchased the building that had been home to agency since 2004. After an extensive search, they selected the architecture firm tres birds workshop to design and build the space. Tres birds, known for their space and function planning, started the process by spending several weeks observing how Cactus staff and departments collaborate and interact. 

Focusing on the raw elements of the building, tres birds worked with agency partners Norm and Joe to create a design that was as inspiring as it was functional. By combining the natural character of the structure with reclaimed materials and then flooding it with natural light, tres birds created the ideal space for Cactus to grow into the future. 

"At tres birds workshop, symbology and stylistic references are absent from our work," says Mike Moore, design principle and general contractor with tres birds workshop. "Inhabitants of our built forms are encouraged to experience the materiality, the structure, and the resulting light and shadows with their senses wide open. With our clients, we rediscover the real thing. We expose the very essence of materials, stripped of association, allowing those materials to vibrate."

Originally built as three separate buildings between 1902 and 1920, 2128 15th Street was known the Prospero Frazzini Block, and housed an Italian-American bank and the Frazzini & Bros Grocery Store. Over the years the building has been home to a number of different companies including the animation studio where the first episode of South Park was produced. Cactus moved into the building in 2004, and today, it is one of the few original structures left in the area.
